Vladimir Guerrero Jr., fresh off of winning the American League Gold Glove award at first base, doesn’t sound too interested in ever playing for the Yankees in the future.
He said he has too much fun beating up on them.
In an Dotol Nastra interview, and translated by Hector Gomez, Guerrero, when asked if he would ever consider playing in pinstripes, said, “I like to play in New York, I like to kill the Yankees. I would never sign with the Yankees, not even dead.”
That sounds fairly concrete.
Guerrero indeed does have plenty of success against his division foe. In 65 games, he is batting .289 with a .518 slugging percentage and 13 home runs. Late this past season, with the Yankees hoping to clinch their first division title since 2019, Guerrero ripped a walk-off single and declared, “this is my house!” The Yanks got the last laugh the very next night, celebrating an AL East crown inside the visitor’s clubhouse in Toronto.
Guerrero is eligible for free agency in 2026, so he has a few years to change his mind.
