(WWJ) An Ecorse mother and her boyfriend are in police custody after a 13-month-old boy was killed and his twin brother was seriously injured.
Officers believe the boyfriend inflicted the injuries, and expect to charge him -- and the mother -- with first-degree murder and child abuse.
First responders were called to the family home where they found two small boys with what they described as horrific injuries.
They were transported to the hospital, where one died and the other remains in critical condition.
The boyfriend had fled the scene, but was eventually found.
The News-Herald reports several Ecorse police officers are grappling with the level of abuse that appears to have taken place inside the Renaissance Estates of Ecorse. One described it as the worst episode he's seen in decades of law enforcement.
The boyfriend allegedly has a history of child abuse, was on parole and wanted on several outstanding warrants.
