(WWJ) One red shoe.

That's what was left behind on the sidewalk after a 14-year-old boy shot his mother's boyfriend during an altercation.

Police told WWJ's Charlie Langton the three -- mom, her boyfriend and the teen -- were in a car together when they stopped on Oakfield Street near 8 Mile Road and Southfield.

"They got into a fight, and mom's shoe ended up here," Langton said. "Where's mom's other shoe? We don't know."

Somehow, the group continued on from there in the car and ended up about a mile away on Steele Street. That's where the teen pulled out a gun.

He killed the 38-year-old boyfriend with multiple gunshots.

Investigators were on the scene for hours. It's unknown if the teen will be charged with a crime. The boy was later released to his mother's custody.

Police did recover the weapon from the scene, though it's also unknown where it came from and if it was legally registered to anyone.

Neighbors told FOX 2 the couple was known to have loud arguments outside.

"Just, yelling and screaming and fighting back and forth," neighbor Miguel Flores said. "They had a fight right here in the driveway all the time."
