DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities have arrested a suspect in the case of three people left fighting for their lives in what appears to be a case of domestic violence.
According to police, 29-year-old woman, her 39-year-old boyfriend and 8-year-old son were shot in the head at around 5 a.m. Tuesday at a home on MacKenzie Street, near Joy Road and Livernois, on Detroit's west side.
All three remain hospitalized in critical condition.
The woman's 3-year-old daughter, who was initially thought to be shot, suffered non-life threatening facial injuries; reports indicate she was pistol-whipped. Her 11-year-old son was able to escape the shooting unharmed.
Other circumstances surrounding the incident weren't immediately clear.
Police, who'd told reporters they had a suspect in mind, took a 25-year-old man into custody Tuesday afternoon. Police said he had "previous relationship" with the female victim, but did not immediately release his name or other details.
Lola, who lives nearby, said the victims haven't lived in the neighborhood very long.
"It's just a lot of kids out there playing, and they're barbecuing, having little activities and stuff going on," she said. "I hear arguing going on a lot of times on that porch, but I don't know who it be because I don't know them."
An investigation is ongoing.
