INDEPENDENCE TWP. (WWJ) - Alcohol may have been to blame, authorities say, when two people were ejected from a classic car over the holiday weekend.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the vehicle -- a 1929 Ford -- was headed westbound on Maybee Road, west of Clintonville Rd. in Independence Township Saturday night, when the driver lost control of the car and left the roadway.
The car, which was not equipped with seatbelts, then rolled over several times, ejecting both occupants.
The driver, identified as a 49-year-old Independence Township man, was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition. The passenger, a 45-year-old man from Macomb Township, was treated by EMS at the scene and taken to the hospital where he was listed in serious condition.
As for what led to the crash, sheriff's officials say excessive speed and alcohol are possible factors.
It's unclear at this time if any charges are expected as the incident remains under investigation.
