TAYLOR, Mich. (WWJ) -- Two people were killed and another is in critical condition following a crash involving a car and semi truck in Taylor on Tuesday morning.

Taylor police say a car ran a stop light at the intersection of Telegraph and Northline Roads and slammed into a semi tractor that was traveling westbound on Northline. Police said the driver of the truck had the green light for around 10 seconds before the car ran through the intersection.

Authorities say Heather Lee Hutchinson and Zachary Tyler Rich were the passengers killed in the car. The driver remains hospitalized with serious injuries and in very critical condition. Taylor police are withholding the driver's name, pending possible charges.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.

Taylor police released dramatic surveillance footage of the crash from a gas station at the intersection. It shows the the car catching fire before the impact of the crash carries both vehicles all the way across the intersection, with the car coming to a stop near a tree in the southwest corner of the intersection. Witnesses were seen calling 9-1-1 and rushing to help.

Numerous witness told police that the car, driving southbound on Telegraph, was going at a high rate of speed and was weaving in and out of traffic, police said. Some items found in the car may indicate that the occupants of the car were intoxicated in some form, but thus far there is no confirmation of that.

Police had difficulty identifying the victims because of a lack of IDs on scene. The deaths were not confirmed until late Tuesday night.

The car was registered out of Missouri, but the occupants were local.
