Acting MSU President Collapses During Graduation Ceremony

EAST LANSING (WWJ) - A graduation ceremony at Michigan State University was delayed, late Friday afternoon, when acting President Satish Udpa collapsed on stage. 

In a statement, the univrsity said Udpa "did have a health incident," adding: "He is receiving medical attention and everyone in the Spartan community has he, Lalita and their family in our thoughts and prayers." 


People at the ceremony said on social media that Udpa appeared to fall while handing out graduate student degrees, and was taken away on a stretcher.  

He is reportedly being treated at East Lansing's Sparrow Hospital for an unspecified medical issue. His condition was unknown, early Friday evening. 

No further detials were immeidatley released. The ceremony was stopped for 20 to 30 minutes, then resumed. 

Udpa took the helm at MSU an inermium capacity in January, when John Engler resigned under pressure amid backlash over his comments regarding some young women who were sexually abused by ex-campus sports doctor Larry Nassar.
