MT. CLEMENS, Mich. (WWJ) -- A Macomb County man accused of killing and dismembering his friend nearly three years ago has been found guilty of several charges, including second degree murder.
After nearly two days of deliberations in Macomb County Circuit Court, a jury found Andrew Fiacco guilty of second degree murder of his friend, Stephen MacAfee. He was also found guilty of disinterment and mutilation of a dead body, felony firearm and lying to police.
While prosecutors were seeking first-degree, premeditated murder, the jury found him guilty of the lesser charge of second degree murder. The jury debated between second degree murder and manslaughter, but dismissed the idea of first-degree, according to The Macomb Daily.
MacAfee, who disappeared from his family's home in March 2016, was shot and killed in the area of 34 Mile Road and Van Dyke in Bruce Township. Parts of MacAfee's body were found about six miles away in the area of 28 Mile and Kuntsman Roads in Ray Township.
Fiacco, 21, argued he killed the 19-year-old MacAfee in self-defense.
The verdict of second-degree murder carries a sentence of up to life in prison, with the possibility of parole.
Fiacco's sentencing will be March 21.
