(WWJ) Police say a 30-year old man was in line at Hollywood Coney Island in the 9900 block of Gratiot at about 3:50 a.m. Wednesday when he got into a verbal altercation with another man.
Police did not reveal what they were fighting about or if one of the men was an employee at the business, but they do know the argument escalatd to the point the suspect retrieved a weapon from his vehicle and shot the victim.
Notably, this marks the second time someone opened fire at a coney island in recent days. Four people were shot, three of them killed, two days ago at a coney island in an incident that Detroit Police Chief James Craig called senseless.
The suspect in the latest case is described as a black male weighing 250 pounds with a dark complexion. He was wearing a white T-shirt and driving a yellow Monte Carlo while armed with a gun.
The victim drove himself home where police and medics were called. He was transported to the local hospital and listed in stable condition.
The circumstances surrounding this incident are still being investigated. Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit Police Department’s Seventh Precinct Investigative Unit at 313-596-5740 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up.
