Armed Suspect Arrested In Budd Park After 8-Hour Search

CLINTON TWP., Mich. (WWJ) -- A suspected gunman who had a Macomb County neighborhood on edge for roughly eight hours overnight is now in custody.

Police say the suspect was taken into custody around 4 a.m. Wednesday at Budd Park, off Clinton River Road near Romeo Plank Road in Clinton Township.

Officers are still searching the park for the suspect's rifle. He's undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. 

One person in the park reported a gunshot hit their car; a second shot may have also been fired. No injuries were reported.

Circumstances that led to the situation were not immediately made clear.

Multiple Facebook users on the Clinton Township Michigan Residents Group page reported receiving text message alerts from Clinton Township police that said a man with a gun was in the area near the park. Photos showed a SWAT team and a heavy police presence in the area.

State police said a helicopter and drones were in the sky searching the area after rain had subsided.
