MACOMB TWP. (WWJ) - Luckily no one was home this afternoon when a semi truck went off 26 Mile Road and crashed right through a house in Macomb Township.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, the asphalt hauler was headed westbound on 26 Mile near Omo Rd., late Wednesday afternoon, when witnesses said the truck blew a tire. The truck driver lost control, officials said, entering the eastbound lane of 26 Mile and striking a silver F-250 pickup truck.
The semi kept rolling, crashing into and through a house before coming to rest in the Meade Cemetery.
Photos show and video destruction at the scene.
Deputies were able to make contact with the homeowner and confirmed that no one was in the house at the time of the crash. Only minor injuries were reported to those in the vehicles; all of whom were wearing their seatbelts.
The home is "severely damaged," the sheriff's office said, and several headstones in the cemetery were also damaged.
The crash happened at around 4 p.m.. As of 6 p.m., both eastbound and westbound 26 Mile Rd. remained completely closed to traffic between North Ave and Werderman Rd. Officials said it's not known when the roadway will reopen.
As an investigation continues, sheriff's officils said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
