TROY (WWJ) - You might need a detour if you're driving in Oakland County this weekend.
Both directions of Big Beaver Road will be closed under I-75 so crews can demolish a bridge that carries northbound freeway traffic over the road. The closure begins around 10 p.m. Friday and will remain in place until 5 a.m. Monday. In addition to the road closure, crews will close the southbound I-75 exit to eastbound Big Beaver during demolition.
The posted detour for eastbound and westbound Big Beaver Road includes Livernois, Crooks and Maple roads.
Currently, both directions of I-75 have two lanes open with all traffic using the southbound side of the freeway, separated by a temporary concrete barrier. This configuration will allow for the northbound lanes and bridges to be reconstructed this year, and is expected to remain in place until late November. This weekend's closure will not impact traffic on I-75.
The entire I-75 modernization project involves rebuilding approximately 18 miles of pavement, replacing bridges, adding a high-occupancy vehicle lane in each direction, and bringing the freeway up to current design standards from north of Eight Mile Road to South Boulevard.
