DETROIT (WWJ) -- Cleanup and investigative efforts are underway after a fire tore through a home on Detroit's northwest side early Sunday morning.
Authorities say the fire broke out around 3 a.m. Sunday in the 17200 block of Chapel Street, a residential neighborhood near the intersection of Grand River Avenue and McNichols Road.
The flames were extinguished early Sunday morning, but fire officials say a body found inside the home was burned beyond recognition.
Investigators remained at the scene Sunday to try and determine the cause of the fire and whether there was any foul play involved.
Authorities did not reveal the extent of the damage to the house. A fire station -- Engine 54, Ladder 24 -- is located on Trinity Street, less than a half mile away from the scene of the fire.
