Body Found Of Rockwood Father Who Went Missing Fishing With Son

(WWJ) The body of Justin Oaks, a Rockwood man who went missing while fishing with his young son, has been recovered.

On Monday, April 13, 2020 members of the Brownstown Township Police Department responded to a report from a local fisherman that a body had been located in the water near the mouth of Lake Erie.

Members of the Downriver Dive Team assembled and recovered Oaks' body from the river. The body was positively identified as the 29-year-old father that went missing with his son Jaxon Oaks on March 29, 2020.

The son's body has not been spotted.

This incident began March 29, 2020, when troopers from the Monroe Post responded to a report of missing boaters on the Huron River. The father-son duo had left to go fishing and the family was unable to contact them. An investigation determined that the last contact with Oaks was via text message at approximately 11:58 a.m. the day he went missing.

An extensive search was conducted by the Michigan State Police Marine Services Team with assistance from the United States Coast Guard, the Michigan DNR, the Brownstown Police and Fire Departments, the Rockwood Police and Fire Departments and the Flat Rock Police and Fire Departments. The boat they had been in was later recovered overturned in the Huron River, but the father and son were not located until the father's body was spotted yesterday.

Anyone having information about the incident is asked to contact Tpr. Evan Ashley of the Monroe Post at 734-242-3500.
