PONTIAC (WWJ) - Authorities say a body that was deliberately hidden under a pile of branches in Pontiac is believed to be a man who has been missing for five months.

The decomposing remains were discovered Wednesday in the area of Lake Street and Gillespie Avenue by a crew that was filming an independent movie. One of the crew members complained of a rotting smell in the area and while searching for the source of the smell, found the remains under a large pile of tree branches.

Based on tattoos on the body, officials tentatively identified the man as 41-year-old Lanard "LA" Curtaindoll, who was reported missing Nov. 23, 2018 after leaving a nightclub. A medical examiner has yet to confirm the identity.

Police believe Curtaindoll was killed shortly after he went missing. He suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to reports.

Investigators says the branches appeared to have been purposely placed over Curtaindoll in an attempt to hide his body. The death is being investigated as a homicide.

Anyone with information is urged to submit a tip anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
