
DETROIT (WWJ) - It's a chance to celebrate and promote women-owned business in Detroit.
As people across the world celebrate International Women's Day this Friday, the day will be commemorated with a Shop Hop in Downtown Detroit. Patrons are being encourage to visit the over 100 local businesses owned by women in the city.
Laura Horwath, the owner of Ferne Boutique in Midtown, says Detroit women operate a wide variety of businesses in the city.
"You know, there's hair salons, nail salons, clothing boutiques, bridal," she told WWJ's Michael Cohen. "The restaurant side, we're got chefs, you know, bakers -- places likes Lady of the House, Sister Pie...they're up for James Beard awards."
"There's a lot of strong women that are doing lots of different things."
On March 8, WomenInDetroit.com is hosting The Shop Hop from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the downtown Detroit area.
