DETROIT (WWJ) - A change has been made involving Chevrolet vehicles on display in the outfield at Comerica Park, because one of the vehicles wasn't built in the United States.
General Motors on Saturday removed a red 2019 Chevy Blazer that was placed at the ballpark last Tuesday and replaced it with a white 2019 Chevy Traverse.
The change was made after complaints from autoworkers, who said putting the Blazer on display was a slap in the face since the SUV is made in Mexico, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press.
The automaker also swapped out a silver 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup for a red version of the truck, to complement the new Traverse.
GM has sponsored the fountain beneath the vehicle display since the opening of Comerica Park, except in 2009 during the automaker's bankruptcy. GM renewed its sponsorship the following year and uses the fountain to display two of its newest models during the Tigers season.
The vehicles are switched out every year before Opening Day.
