WWJ -- Detroit billionaire businessman Dan Gilbert has returned to Michigan to continue his post-stroke rehabilitation locally, Quick Loans CEO Jay Farner said in a statement on Tuesday.

Gilbert had been rehabbing at an inpatient facility in Chicago since suffering a stroke while at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak in late May. He returned to Michigan on Friday, but it was not made clear whether he is at home or in a local rehab facility.

"We are extremely thankful for all of the skilled medical professionals who have played a significant role in Dan's recovery and are glad to have him back home," Farner said in a statement. "While Dan focuses his energy on the rehabilitation process, our teams across the family of companies will continue to execute at a high level, serving and supporting our clients and team members."

In late May, Gilbert had complained that he was not feeling well and a family friend took him to Beaumont, where he suffered a stroke on May 26.

Gilbert, the chairman and founder of the Detroit-based home mortgage lender, has invested millions in the revitalization of downtown Detroit. He is also the majority owner of the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers.

Gilbert sent a video update to Quicken Loans employees earlier this summer and appeared to look strong during his rehabilitation.
