
DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit's three casinos raked in a record amount of dough last year.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board on Tuesday said the three casinos reported a historic $1.44 billion in annual revenue for 2018, which is $20 million higher than the previous record of $1.42 billion set in 2011.
Slot machines contributed $1.17 billion -- 81 percent -- of the 2018 revenue, while table games took in $272 million.
MGM Grand Detroit reported $619.2 million in annual revenue, a 4.6 percent increase from last year, surpassing its previous record of $604.9 million set in 2012.
MotorCity Casino also collected record annual revenue of $489.7 million, up 2.3 percent from last year, surpassing its previous revenue record of $480.2 million set in 2007.
Greektown Casino’s 2018 revenue totaled $335.2 million, a 1.7 percent increase from last year but just short of its record $352.8 million set in 2011.
The casinos paid just over $117 million in gaming taxes last year. They reported paying the city of Detroit about $182.9 million in waging taxes and development agreement payments.
