BELLE ISLE (WWJ) - With tens of thousands of fans headed to Detroit's Belle Isle for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix -- Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2 -- event organizers have a comprehensive transportation plan in place to help things go smoothly.
First thing's first: Public parking is not available on Belle Isle during the Grand Prix. Round-trip shuttle service that runs continuously from two downtown Detroit locations is provided free of charge.
Here's what you need to know to get safely on and off the island:
Fans are welcome to park at any of the public parking structures or lots downtown. A dedicated fleet of Grand Prix luxury buses will then transport guests from two dedicated pick up locations in downtown Detroit: Cobo Center and the GM Renaissance Center. Race attendees will be dropped off at the entrance gates to the Grand Prix on Belle Isle.
Shuttle service will begin at 7 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 7:30 a.m. on Sunday and will continue to operate until all guests have returned from the island at the conclusion of Grand Prix activities.
Both shuttle pick up locations are easily accessible by using the Detroit People Mover. Fans can also use the Q-Line from Midtown to connect with the Detroit People Mover at the Grand Circus Park station.
