Detroit Man Charged With Slaying Dad, Shooting Mom

DETROIT (WWJ) - A 35-year-old Detroit man has been ordered held without bond, accused of killing his father and shooting his mother. 

Alton Lyons was arraigned in 36th District Court Friday, charged with First Degree Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and three counts of Felony Firearm in the fatal shooting of 60-year-old Ardel Hough and the non-fatal shooting of 64-year-old Melissa Hough.


Shortly before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, Detroit police officers were called to the Hough family home in the 20400 block of Grandview in Detroit to find Lyons standing outside. 

Inside, police found Ardel Hough dead with two gunshot wounds to the head, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. Melissa Hough was found alive and suffering from a gunshot wound on the left side of her body.  She was taken by EMS to local hospital, and her son was arrested. 

Following his brief court appearance, Lyons was remanded into custody in the Wayne County Jail where he will await a Probable Cause Conference scheduled for May 17. 

Circumstances leading up to he shootings are not known. Police and prosecutors have not yet commented on a possible motive.
