DETROIT (WWJ) - Prom night takes a terrifying turn on Detroit's west side.

Police say a group of teenagers were gathering around 7 p.m. Friday for a prom sendoff in the 2900 block of Doris, along Linwood Street just north of the Davison Freeway, when a homeowner apparently became angry about the crowd in front of his house.

The homeowner allegedly came outside, pulled out a gun and fired several shots, striking an 18-year-old male. The suspect then got into a blue or gray Hyundai sedan and fled the scene.

The teen was taken to a nearby hospital and last reported in serious condition.

The suspect remains at large. He's described as roughly 6' tall and in his 40s with a stocky build, hair in braids and eyeglasses, wearing a baseball cap.
