DETROIT (WWJ) - Here is some good news for cross border commuters.
The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel will return to normal hours beginning this Friday through mid-August as the $21.6 million renovation project draws to a close.
The tunnel will stay open around the clock, then close for one night per week from mid-August through September 30.
Work on the tunnel began in 2017 and is expected to be complete by year's end. The tunnel had been closed during construction from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Because a majority of tunnel users are commuters, the closure schedule was designed to complete the project as safely and quickly as possible, with the least disruption for the tunnel's 12,000 daily users.
