(WWJ) Ever since it was erected, an enormous, expensive adornment has been drawing attention in Sterling Heights.

The jokes and jabs have been flying since the 35-foot structure went up in the M-59/Hall Road median in January, as a part of a $1.8 million landscape improvement project, branding the stretch the "Golden Corridor."

While some residents have complained about the price tag (around $339,350 total for the ring and signs), lighthearted jabs have been the norm, with jokes referencing Lord of the Rings, Sonic the Hedgehog, Stargate and other themes too crass to mention here.

Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor has said he was prepared to take some ribbing about the ring, but he stands by it as a part of bigger plans for the city's future. (Read more here).
