DEARBORN (WWJ) - A Dearborn police officer is recovering following an on-the-job crash.
According to officials with the Dearborn Police Department, the male officer, early Wednesday afternoon, was on his way to back up another officer who was following a vehicle that had been reported stolen. That's when the crash occurred in the intersection of Ford Road and Beech Daly in Dearborn Heights.
Both the officer and the other driver involved in the collision were taken to Garden City Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, officials said. It's unclear at this time who was at fault.
Police said the stolen vehicle, meanwhile, was successfully stopped and an auto theft suspect was taken into custody. No further details about that case were immediately released.
No names have been released as investigations in both cases are ongoing.
