LIVONIA (WWJ) - Plymouth Township and Livonia firefighters came to the rescue of a man who became trapped between two semi-truck tires.

Plymouth Township Fire Chief Daniel Phillips said it happened while the man was performing maintenance on the truck Thursday evening on Pilot Drive, near 5 Mile and Beck roads.

"He was doing work on the semi when, from the sounds of it, another driver inadvertently backed the truck over him. That's how he got pinned between the two tires," Phillips told WWJ's Mike Campbell.

Crews had to use a winch and airbags so they could remove the outer tire from the front axle and then cut through the inner tire in order to get to the victim.

Remarkably, the man had only minor injuries.

"It took some time but we did get him out," Phillips said. "We cut him out slowly, monitoring his condition the entire time. He was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Livonia in stable condition."
