(WWJ) Another freeway shooting erupted in Detroit overnight, marking at least the 15th such incident since mid-June.

State Police told WWJ troopers were dispatched Tuesday night to the Lodge Freeway and Davison, where the victim said his vehicle was struck by a bullet.

The victim reported that he and suspect got into a traffic altercation when the suspect's vehicle drove up next to the victim. The victim saw a handgun and heard a “pop.”  One round struck the victim’s vehicle.

The suspect then fled. The driver wasn't hit and there were no injuries.

As of yet, there's no word on a description of the suspect or vehicle involved.

While a flurry of these shootings have taken place, police said they are not related -- and usually not random.

Detroit has experienced an overall increase in violence this summer, amid the stress of the pandemic. Detroit Police James Craig revealed this week that officers had seized 537 illegally possessed firearms from June 22 to July 19. From June 22-July 26, the DPD arrested 473 people for carrying concealed weapons, with 128 of those arrests occurring last week.

"We want the violence to stop, and they're going out and they're making illegal gun arrests, every day," the chief said. "And imagine going into that situation."
