ROYAL OAK TWP. (WWJ) - A gun stolen during a break-in at a Livonia firearms shop back in 2016 reappeared during a traffic stop in Oakland County.
Michigan State Police say troopers were patrolling Royal Oak Township early Tuesday morning when they stopped a vehicle for improper lane use. As troopers approached the vehicle, they noticed the driver -- a 25-year-old Detroit man -- "hiding a gun in the fuse box compartment."
The troopers detained the man and discovered a Glock 17 pistol with a loaded magazine during a search of the vehicle. Further investigation revealed the man did not possess a CPL and the firearm was reported as stolen.
Police say the weapon was taken during a break-in at the Gun Barn in Livonia in 2016 -- when more than 20 guns were stolen.
The suspect was arrested and lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending charges of carrying a concealed weapon, transporting/possessing a stolen firearm, and driving on a suspended license.
