(WWJ) Two members of the Harper Woods Public Safety Department were fired for concealing evidence in the death of Priscilla Slater, a 38-year-old woman who died this summer in police custody.
City officials say Deputy Chief John Vorgitch had asked Officer Michael Pineau to remove information from a police report relevant to her death.
Four other people remain on administrative leave as Michigan State Police continue their investigation.
Slater was found unresponsive inside a Harper Woods holding cell on June 10 after her arrest following an incident where a man she was with fired 19 gunshots at the Parkcrest Motel. There were questions, many questions, that were answered in a way that left the public unsatisfied.
Protests erupted outside City Hall and John Gillooly, an attorney retained by Harper Woods, said the city found the police report had been doctored.
"Unfortunately, our city has discovered that members of its Police Department attempted to conceal and manipulate evidence in the 'in custody death investigation' of" Priscilla Slater," said John Szymanski, acting city manager, in a statement.
The investigation is ongoing, he stressed.
