DETROIT (AP/WWJ) - Henry Ford Health System in Detroit is implementing temporary visitor restrictions at six hospitals to protect patients, employees and visitors from the spread of the flu.

The system says visitors can be no younger than 12, and patients who have flu-like symptoms that have scheduled appointments or procedures should wear a mask and maintain proper hand hygiene.

Other visitors with flu-like symptoms are asked not to visit loved ones, family members or friends until their symptoms improve.

Henry Ford in Detroit, Allegiance Health and Kingswood Hospital are included in the restrictions. Restrictions also are in place at Henry Ford hospitals in Macomb, Wyandotte and West Bloomfield.

Associate Chief Clinical Officer and Chief Quality Officer Betty Chu says a decision to lift the restrictions will be made later based on flu activity.
