ROMULUS (WWJ) - Police made a bizarre find Downriver - where "hundreds" of exotic animals, including kangaroos and giant rabbits, were being kept in a strip mall.
The animals were discovered Thursday during a raid at a business on Ecorse Road near Merriman Road in Romulus.
Officers responded after receiving a tip and found Flemish giant rabbits, iguanas, kangaroos, peacocks, tortoises and several hundred hedgehogs, according to The Detroit News.
The animals were seized and transferred to a safe location. Officials are not revealing where the animals have been placed over fears for their safety.
Authorities are now investigating criminal charges. Owning exotic animals is illegal in the city.
