(WWJ/AP) - After a failed Senate bid, Republican John James seems set to throw his hat back in the race.

James, who last year lost a Senate race to Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabenow, kicked off his campaign this morning on Fox News.

"I believe that the time again is to serve. I believe that right now, nothing has changed," he said. "I still have a passion for service. I still have a clear vision."

James' official campaign website calls out incumbent Gary Peters, who's up for re-election next year.  The website labels James, a combat veteran, as a political outsider and says that "Gary Peters has failed Michigan." He's expected to hold an official campaign kickoff early next year after filing petitions to officially be on the ballot.

James aligned closely with President Trump during his campaign last year.

James, 37, of Farmington Hills, has highlighted his business credentials and military service. The West Point graduate flew Apache helicopters in combat and led two platoons during the Iraq War. After being honorably discharged, he joined his father's Detroit-based group of companies: James Group International Inc. He is CEO of Renaissance Global Logistics, which ships supplier parts to auto factories around the world.
