LIVONIA (WWJ) - A Livonia man who apparently wanted his friend's husband dead is facing criminal charges in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire plot.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says Scott Fraser Porter tried to get a man to kill the husband of a female friend.

Plymouth Township police arrested Porter last week on charges of solicitation of murder and using a computer to commit a crime.

The 48-year-old appeared in court for a probable cause conference Friday and was referred for a competency evaluation, which will determine if he is mentally fit to understand the charges against him and to assist his defense attorney in the case.

A preliminary examination initially set for April 22 was canceled, with Porter's next tentative next court date now set for June 12.

Porter remains in custody on a $500,000 cash bond on the condition he wear a GPS tether if released. He faces up to life in prison if convicted as charged.
