NEW HAVEN, Mich. (WWJ) -- A pair of prisoners used an unusual method to try to escape from a Metro Detroit prison.

Authorities say two inmates at the Macomb Correctional Facility in New Haven, northeast of Detroit, used makeshift mannequins to try and trick guards in an attempt to escape on Saturday evening.

Two guards at the facility noticed two inmates walking towards the fence when they were supposed to be in another area with other inmates, which caused the facility to conduct an emergency count.

Corrections officers found the dummies in the cell of Chakaris Loury and Darious Culpepper. Neither inmate got close to the fence and neither was found to have tools to help them escape.

The inmates allegedly rolled up sheets to make them appear there was someone in the bunks.

Loury, 24, is serving 25 years for assault with intent to commit murder, and Culpepper, 27, is serving eight years for armed robbery.

The inmates could face new charges as a result of their attempt.
