ROMULUS (WWJ) - A 28-year-old man accused of threatening a family on I-94 is behind bars facing multiple charge.

Referring to the incident as a case of road rage, authorities say Demetrius Butler of Detroit was driving erratically and "menacing the family" -- a 49-year-old Detroit man, a 25-year-old Royal Oak woman and their infant child -- as they traveled along westbound I-94 near Merriman Road on March 7.

According to investigators, Butler at one point pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victims’ car. The family quickly found a Michigan State Police trooper in an I-94 median and reported the incident.

Butler was found by police still driving along I-94 near Michigan Ave., pulled over and arrested.

State police earlier had said they believed at least one shot was fired by the suspect, but troopers scouring the freeway for evidence couldn't find anything.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has charged Butler with the following: Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, two counts of Felonious Assault,  four counts of Felony Firearm, Reckless Driving and Driving While License Suspended.

He ordered held on a $100,000 cash/surety bond at an arraignment in 34th District Court on Friday. His next court date set for March 20 before Judge Lisa Martin.
