EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - A 22-year-old man has been arrested for breaking into vehicles and resisting arrest in Eastpointe.
According to the Eastpointe Police Department, Benson Lee Wangsness was found in possession of a number of items stolen from cars when he was taken into custody. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday on one count of Resisting and Obstruct a Police Officer and one count of Breaking and Entering a Vehicle.
The crimes occurred on Almond, Rosalind, and Roxana and other streets in an area south of Stephens between Schroeder and Kelly Sunday night. "We are going through some of the evidence that was collected to tie him into other larcenies, police said.
Police on Facebook reminded members of the community to always lock their cars at night, and never leave valuables in vehicles, especially in plain view. "Make it a point to check your vehicle each night before you go to bed," police said. "Do not make it easy for these people."
Police urge people who live in the area Wangsness hit to check to see if their vehicles were broken into.
Once they sort out all the recovered items, police said they'll put ouf a list of everything that was recovered. "This is why it is important to always file a police report. If one was not filed, it never happened. We would like to return all stolen property back to the rightful owners," police said.
Wangsness has a criminal history and was he was on probation at the time of these alleged crimes, according to police. Michigan Department of Corrections records show he has convicted for drug possession as well as larceny from a motor vehicle.
