PONTIAC (WWJ) - Oakland County authorities have arrested an alleged church robber who claimed he was Jesus Christ.

Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office were called out to the Eternal Mother Temple Church, 500 block of W. Kennett Rd., Sunday night by parishioners who reported that a man was trying to intimidate them for money -- insisting he was the Lord -- before running off with the church donation box.

A BOL (be on the lookout) was broadcast to other deputies in the area with the suspect’s physical description, and he was spotted carrying a donation box at the North Hill Farms Apartment complex.

After a foot case, officials said deputies deployed a Taser two separate times, but that didn't stop the self-proclaimed messiah.

Deputies eventually caught up with the suspect again in the area of Fairmount Ave. and Apple Lane where, after a struggle, he was arrested. One deputy suffered a minor injury.

The suspect, identified at this time only as a 29-year-old Pontiac man, was taken to the Oakland County Jail to await formal charges.

Officials said the donation box, which contained $831, was recovered.
