(WWJ) What would make an 84-year-old Petoskey man drive more than 100 miles on flat tires?
A medical emergency is the answer.
A Michigan State Police trooper is credited with saving the life of the elderly man who was suffering from a stroke while driving.
The trooper did everything he could to stop the car when he noticed it on US 131 near Cadillac Tuesday morning.
First, he tried to get the driver to pull over using lights and a siren, but that didn't work. He pulled in front of the vehicle to force it to slow down. Eventually, it stopped.
It was an effort: Police noted in a press release the man's tires were shredded to the point his brakes were nearly inoperable.
The driver appeared to have had a stroke and was taken to Munson Cadillac Hospital.
