ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - A Macomb County man could spend the rest of his life in prison after he was convicted of raping the daughter of a friend several years ago.
The Macomb County Prosecutor's office says 46-year old Shane Chupa sexually assaulted the girl at her father's home in St. Clair Shores in 2011, but it wasn't until last year that charges were filed.
It took a jury just two hours to convict Chupa of two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Prosecutors say Chupa was a longtime friend of the victim's father and lived with the family when she was just 5-years-old in Clinton Township. Chupa moved out but returned to live with the family again in St. Clair Shores in 2011.
The victim, now 17, was between 8- and 9-years-old at the time of the alleged assault. Charges came after the girl told a friend and an aunt about the rape nearly seven years later.
Chupa faces a minimum of 25-years in prison, due to the first-degree conviction, and a maximum of life when sentenced Aug. 14.
