INKSTER (WWJ) - A man who was shot in Inkster overnight is in custody at the hospital after apparently lying about the incident.
The victim called police just after 3:30 a.m. Saturday and reported he was shot in the leg by an unknown suspect while driving his car near Avondale Street and Middlebelt Road, south of Cherry Hill Road.
Michigan State Police say evidence collected at the scene didn't match up with the victim's story. After interviewing the victim at the hospital, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, detectives determined that he accidentally shot himself.
The victim was placed in custody at the hospital. Prosecutors are expected to review the case for possible charges, including felon with a firearm.
