Metro Detroit Streets Eerily Empty During Covid-19 Coronavirus Pandemic

Popular gathering spots and landmarks of metro Detroit are void of auto and pedestrian traffic on Monday, March 23rd, 2020 as Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued an order for all residents to stay home in Michigan due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 Coronavirus.

Those who wish can still go out to get groceries, medicines and other essential supplies, but the "Stay Home, Stay Safe" executive order is directing most businesses in the state to temporarily suspend in-person operations. Get full details on what this order means.


Officials believe these measures will buy time for our health care system to gradually treat those infected with Covid-19. 

Few patrons get on and off buses at the Rosa Parks Transit Center on the west end of Downtown Detroit.

Patrons are few and far between at shops and restaurants along Monroe St. in Greektown.

Traffic is non-existent along Jefferson Ave. near Hart Plaza.

La Gloria bakery near Mexicantown / Southwest Detroit was open, but with reduced hours. 

Many trucks and workers were busy loading goods into Eastern Market for shoppers that may not visit for some time. 

Nobody is in sight at the Potbelly Sandwich Shop and Starbucks Coffee near Campus Martius Park. 

Popular eateries in Eastern Market are locked up tight. 

Bars and restaurants along Woodward Ave. display signs instructing customers of their carry-out options. 

The Wayne State University Welcome Center is empty as campuses across the country are closed until further notice.
