
GROVELAND TWP., Mich. (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are investigating after a fatal crash in Oakland County Tuesday night.
MSP tweeted late Tuesday night that troopers responded to a report of a fatal crash along Grange Hall Road in Groveland Township shortly before 8:30 p.m. Groveland Township is east of I-75 near Holly.
A preliminary investigation showed that a 2003 Chevrolet was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control at the intersection of Foxwood Trail. The vehicle left the road and struck a tree.
Police said one man was taken to Genysis Hospital in Flint with unknown injuries. That man was conscious at the scene and made the call to 9-1-1 after the crash.
The other occupant, who police said had to be extricated from the vehicle, was killed. He's since been identified as a 23-year-old Clarkston man.
Police say it's not known yet if alcohol or drugs may have played a role as an investigation continues.
The victim's name has not yet been released.
