**UPDATE 5PM: Man Wanted In Alleged Kidnapping Of 5-Year-Old Detroit Boy
DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say a 14-hour search for a 5-year-old boy in northwest Detroit is finally over.
Just before 12:40 p.m. Friday, police said Marcus Pruitt was found safe at a home on Stahelin Avenue near 7 Mile Road. Details about his recovery weren't immediately released, although he is believed to be OK.
"Right now we're having EMS check him over to make sure he's fine; he appears fine from when I looked at him," said Detroit Police Captain Darrell Patterson. "I asked him if he was OK, he said he was fine."
Reporting from the scene, WWJ's Jon Hewett said people at the home apparently heard news reports that the child was missing, and called to notify police. Officers rushed over to find the missing boy on the porch.
Other details, including how he ended up there -- about a mile from his home -- remain unclear as an investigation continues.
"Once we check him out and give a better story as to what happened, we'll brief you," Patterson added.
Pruitt was reported mising the night before from his home on St. Mary's Street, near 7 Mile Road and the Southfield Freeway. His mother told police she went to check on the boy around 10:30 p.m. and he was gone.
"The young boy was last seen by his mother. He was upstairs playing, or he was playing videogames the last time she saw him, that was about 9 to 9:40 p.m. last night," said Police Capt. Darrell Patterson. "Later on she discovered that he was missing. She searched around the house and then finally contacted the police once she could not find him inside of the home."
Police searched the house but couldn't find the boy. Officers also searched the neighborhood, going door to door looking for the boy, but haven't found any signs of Pruitt. A K-9 was brought in to track the child from the home, but Patterson said the track "didn't go that far, maybe down the street to a vacant home. We searched that home also to no avail, he was not found there."
Police released a video of Pruitt, taken before he was reported missing, that shows him waving at a doorbell camera on his neighbor's front porch. A timestamp of the video indicates it was recorded just before 8 p.m. on Thursday.
Police said early on they believed Pruitt simply walked away from his home.
