(WWJ) How would a full hearse end up submerged in the Detroit River with no witnesses or claim from an owner?
If you know, please tell the authorities.
Police in Trenton and Grosse Ile worked with the Downriver Dive Team to pull one from the Detroit River in Trenton, but everything about the situation remains a mystery.
The News-Herald Newspapers reports the joint effort to pull the oversized black vehicle from the water was part of a training mission.
Officers have known it was down there for awhile, possibly years, although h Lt. Pual Pallend said they didn't know until today that it was a hearse.
How it got there, how long ago it landed ... and most of all why it's there .. are also unknown.
Divers successfully submerged themselves about 20 feet down to recover the vehicle, which Pallend said turned out to be a 1981 Ford LTD.
Pallend told WWJ's Sandra McNeill the hearse fell apart as they were pulling it out.
Now that the car is above ground, police are hoping to trace the ownership of the vehicle and start getting some answers.
"It could've been down there for decades," Pallend said. "And I know our drive team is researching some insurance information and Secretory of State records to identify the last known owner."
