LYON TWP. (WWJ) - A pedestrian has died after he was hit by a car in western Oakland County's Lyon Township.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the victim -- a 22-year-old man from Livingston County's Genoa Township -- was walking with a friend on Grand River Ave. at Asbury Hill Dr., near I-96, a little after 8 p.m. Thursday, when he was struck by a Ford Taurus.
He was treated by EMS at the scene and was in "grave condition" when he was taken to a local hospital. He later died of his injuries, the sheriff's office said.
The man was walking in the roadway, not in a designated crosswalk, according to investigators. He was not wearing reflective clothing and there were no streetlights on this portion of Grand River.
The driver who hit him, identified as a 40-year-old Lyon Township, stopped at the scene. It's unclear if she may face charges.
Officials said alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the crash as the investigation continues.
No names have been released.
