(WWJ) The daily rate of increase for coronavirus cases in Michigan has declined for three days in a row.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is reporting 633 new cases of the virus since Saturday. 83 more Michiganders have passed away from COVID-19.
This brings the total case count to 31,424 and the death count to 2,391.
On Friday and Saturday, the daily rate of increase was in the 700s. Prior to Friday; the number of daily reported cases ranged between 990 to more than 1,900 since March 30th with only one exception.
The apparent peak happened on April 2nd, with 1,953 cases reported in a single day. Governor Whitmer implemented the “Stay-at-Home, Stay Safe" Order on March 24th.
Detroit continues to be the hardest hit area with 7,604 cases total and 618 deaths.
The Detroit Health Department released statistics Sunday showing the parts of the city most impacted by the virus. Zip code 48235, on the northwest side, has 738 residents who have tested positive.
The rest of Wayne County has 6,088 cases and 501 deaths.
Oakland County has 6,109 cases, and 471 deaths. You can see a color coded map of the COVID-19 cases in Oakland County here.
The youngest Michigander to lose his life to COVID-19 was 20, and the oldest was 107. The median age of the people who have died is 75. The case fatality rate is 8%.
A total of 3,237 residents have recovered; a stat which is updated weekly, on Saturdays. The State Health Department lists patients as recovered if they're doing well one month after symptoms appeared.
