(WWJ) Fiat-Chrysler has announce it's recalling 67,248 newer Jeep Cherokees in the U.S. to fix a transmission software glitch.
WWJ AutoBeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert reports that the problem can cause two different issues: The vehicles can lose propulsion power, or drivers may not be able to put them into park.
There's been one crash related to this issue, according to FCA, and no one was injured.
Included in the recall are certain 2014-17 model year Jeep Cherokees equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit. Vehicles with a single-speed PTU are not affected.
FCA will send out recall notices starting next month.
In the meantime, the automaker is advising owners to make sure the parking brakes on those vehicles are engaged while parked.
In addition to the U.S. vehicles, FCA said around 13,659 will be recalled in Canada, 716 in Mexico and 9,940 in other markets outside North America.
