DETROIT (WWJ) - The tally is in for the latest in a series of Detroit-area traffic crackdowns in recent weeks.
This time, Michigan State Police in marked and unmarked vehicles focused on I-96, I-75, M-10 the Lodge and the M-39 the Southfield Freeway.
Police said a total of 693 drivers were stopped and and hundreds of tickets were written Wednesday, during "Operation Slower to Lower Part II."
The top speed registered in the operation was 106 mph.
The purpose of these crackdowns, according to police, is to slow traffic and lower the amount of traffic fatalities in the Detroit area.
MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said the goal is zero traffic deaths over the Labor Day holiday weekend, tweeting: "Drive Sober, pay attention, take your time and we will all be fine!"
