911 Callers Describe Man Shooting, Pointing Gun In Busy Michigan Roadway [LISTEN]

(WWJ) A CPL holder who shot and killed an armed man in the roadway near Lansing says he was on his way to play golf when the stranger jumped in front of his car.

As the investigation continues into that shooting, Eaton County authorities have released a recording of 911 calls about the armed man who walking in traffic on Saginaw Hwy. during Monday's busy morning rush.

"We have attached two 911 calls from the incident yesterday to give the public we serve a glimpse into the quickly evolving and dangerous situation encountered by many yesterday morning," the Eaton County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities received nearly a dozen 911 calls from people reporting that the now-deceased suspect was firing off rounds and pointing a handgun at motorists in Delta Township.

"He's standing in the middle of the road shooting a gun up into the air," one caller tells the dispatcher. "He pointed it, and the Camaro went around him. He's just running in front of cars now."

"He jumped out in front of me;  I'm in a semi truck," another caller said. "He jumped out in front of me and brandished a handgun and was making threats to me."

It continued that way for a couple of minutes, sheriff's officials said, until the gunman stepped in front of a Ford Escape driven by a 22-year-old Delta Township resident. Upon arrival deputies found the suspect — a 26-year-old Walker, Michigan man— lying in the roadway with a handgun next to him. He was pronounced dead by EMS at the scene.

The Escape driver remained at the scene and was "cooperative" with detectives, who interview him and several witnesses, some of which told deputies that the suspect had pointed the gun at them, too, the sheriff's office said.

It's still not known if the CPL holder may face charges. Eaton County Prosecutor Doug Lloyd did come to the scene yesterday; and, once the case is once complete, it will be forwarded to his office for review of the fatal shooting.

Sheriff's officials said they have been in contact with family of the man who was killed, adding: "We feel for the many that were affected by this incident yesterday,"
