(WWJ) A man is fighting for his life after a serious bike crash in Pontiac.
The Oakland County Sheriff said a deputy responded to the location of the crash at Gambrell near Hilltop Thursday around 1:45 pm. He found blood on the curb, but no bike at the scene; according to a press release.
Further investigation revealed the man, 53, had not been struck by a vehicle, but the rear brakes on his bike had malfunctioned.
Investigators say the victim was traveling downhill, used his front brakes to halt his momentum, but the bike did not stop. He struck his head on the curb, according to the Oakland County Sheriff.
The OCSO Crash Reconstruction Unit learned a neighbor of the victim had found the bike at the scene of the crash and returned it to his home.
The victim is in critical condition with severe brain trauma. He is not expected to recover.
